Nothing really matters, anyone can see – thanks Freddie

Nothing matters

Er… I’m not sure I agree

Naturally

Er… if you were right – if nothing matters – then what would be the point of anything?

The point is neither here nor there. People are free to act as if things matter – to try to convince themselves that things really matter, as indeed they appear to do, without a doubt – and yet…

Nothing matters?

Absolutely.

But don’t you see the contradiction in what you’re saying.

Yes. It matters not.

No? Me thinks it does. If you use words to say that nothing matters – that’s like using numbers to say that all numbers add up to nought.

Yes.

Which is nonsensical.

Correct.

Then you’re talking nonsense. You’re using words which are, by their very nature, affirmative, to claim there is no value in anything – including words.

Paradoxical, isn’t it? Welcome to the quantum era. On the matter side of things, everything matters, words included; on the non-matter side of things – nothing matters, words included – but once you allow or accept this – you realise that “nothing” is no longer an absence or negation – that it must be something else.

Huh? Something else? In other words, you’re saying it must be something.

Yes, except it isn’t – not really – not in terms of matter or physical reality.

Then what?

Good question, Bob.

Well?

Well, it’s a bit like this elusive dark matter or dark energy, which the scientists are always banging on about.

It is? In what way?

Well, if it actually exists, which is inferred but not proven, then it’s something that is a different kind of matter altogether. We can speculate: it could be matter in a different time phase, if you like. Whatever it is, it’s “nothing” because we’re unable to perceive it,  because it doesn’t register in our reality, yet if it exists, it affects our reality by generating some kind of gravity, or by helping hold our matter in position by providing an invisible framework around or between matter itself.

Bah! All empty speculation.

Yes.

Worthless. Pointless. Meaningless.

Yes.

You see – you’ve achieved nothing.

Yes. But nothing matters, or so I contend. And besides…

What?

Infinity cannot be excluded; it cannot be ignored – or denied.

And what?

And infinity is, by definition, nothing.

What?!

Because, by definition, infinity cannot be measured or calculated – can it?

I…

Don’t know, do you?

I…

Because infinity is what neither words nor matter can contend with – though that doesn’t mean we should throw up our arms in despair, if the quantum field is now coming into play.

into play?

or into view.

Bah!

Now, rationally we’re unable to interact with the quantum field…

Rationally? We’re building quantum computers – so you’re talking nonsense, not for the first time.

Our rational minds are unable to interact directly with the quantum field. The rational mind is on one side of the y axis. The quantum field, on the other hand, is only accessible through both sides simultaneously.

Which is irrational, is it not?

Yes.

So why bother mentioning it?

Because, presumably “consciousness” is not limited to one side or t’other.

No?

No. And therefore, the quantum age is going to teach us things about consciousness we never knew, or things we knew but then forgot.

It is?

It is – it’s going to teach us how to operate a-rationally – in a state of knowing or awareness in which we don’t take sides, or don’t need to do so – in which we can simply take things as they are without needing to decide whether we agree with them or not – or whether they’re particle or wave – an entirely different waying of seeing or perceiving.

Bah! More speculation.

For otherwise we’d be unable to start to interact with infinity – and nothing would never become anything more than an absence of physicality – a rational data point.

A rational data point? That’s how you see things?

That’s one way of seeing them. Clearly they need to fit into the rational mind frame, or perhaps that should be the rational mind scape.

Ah – the rational mind scape… yes… interesting – even if it’s nonsensical.

Rationally, by definition it has to be nonsense – but then again – rationally infinity is always excluded – ostracized to the outer edge of our reality – the place where things no longer matter – like the briefest moment after Big Bang, or the outermost edge of the universe.

And?

And as long as we do that – as long as we exclude her – the dark lady – so to speak – we’re trapped in an empirical Newtonian-Einsteinian version of reality.

Bah! All nonsense. Besides, I don’t like your dark lady reference. It’s spooky.

Well, I don’t like dark matter – it implies it’s all inanimate.

And why shouldn’t it be inanimate?

Because we, the observer, are only able to say as much from a position of animacy.

And? Just because I’m animate doesn’t mean the stones or molecules I’m observing are also, does it?

No – it doesn’t mean anything, does it – because there’s ultimately no meaning, if you think about it – as long as you exclude infinity – as long as nothing matters not.

Sophistry.

But as soon as nothing matters – positively – then you realise that the mind making things matter – apportioning meaning and sense to people, places, things, ideas and even absences – this mind can only do so if…

If what?

If the light it sheds is able to maintain its ones in balance and harmony with zeros or noughts – the dark side of mind, of matter, of me.

Aaaargh!!!! What are you saying, Taya?

I’m saying nothing much – nothing you can rationally make sense of – everything that needs to be said to hold the two sides of the y axis in balance and harmony – without which you cannot ever, ever engage infinity.

And what? You think you can?

Think? What’s thinking got to do with it?

You can? Is that what you’re saying, Taya? You can engage infinity?

Only if nothing really matters.

Only if…

nothing really matters

Really?

Even here – in reality – in this physical 3D realm – where I can juggle ones and zeros if I don’t take sides – if I engage infinity drive and if, as God saw in Genesis when he created the universe – that is is good

Good?

good
